Under-eye hollows and dark circles
Under-eye hollows occur as a result of loss of volume (bone and/or fat pads) under the eye area, dehydration, lack of sleep or rapid weight loss. Symptoms include dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles creating a tired, sunken appearance. These hollows can get more noticeable as the skin loses volume with age and lifestyle factors for example lack of sleep and dehydration. The skin under the eyes is very thin and delicate, which is why it sometimes appears sunken and has a darker colour than elsewhere on the face. Age plays a role in sunken eyes or under-eye hollows, but other factors can contribute to the darkening/hollowing of this area, so it may (and often does) affect younger people as well.
